SPAIN CONFISCATED PROPERTY BELONGING TO RUSSIANS
Spanish authorities have frozen 23 properties allegedly linked to Russian businessmen. This was reported on Saturday by the newspaper El Pais.
According to its information, the documents of the property registry of each object are now marked: “Prohibition on disposal”. This property allegedly belongs to Russian entrepreneurs or persons affiliated with them. A total of 29 properties has so far been identified in Spain, which may be related to the businessmen from the Russian Federation.
As the newspaper explains, after the start of the operation in Ukraine, the Spanish government created a working group, which includes experts from various fields, from the police to notaries and registrars, who exchange documents and information with each other. In addition, the government has previously approved a special mechanism aimed at facilitating the seizure of property allegedly linked to Russian businessmen. The initiative foresees a system that allows freezing the property of businessmen included in the EU sanctions list, even if it is registered in the name of third persons or companies.
Earlier, the newspaper El Pais reported that 34 properties associated with Russian businessmen had been found on Spanish territory.
